Large Format Print Requirements

Create your own banner, point of sale signage or indoor business signs.

Our Large format print requirements are a guide to help you prepare artwork for Aluminum Boards, Foam Boards, Indoor Banners, PVC Boards and Outdoor banners. You can find Large format templates on our Templates page.

Please contact our prepress department if you need help submitting press-ready files. If you need help creating press-ready files, our design team would be happy to help you.

File types accepted

For our Large format print products, we prefer you submit your artwork as a press-ready PDF file. We can also accept Photoshop (PSD), Illustrator (AI), TIFF and JPG files.
For large format artwork files, we do not accept Word Documents (DOC, DOCX), Microsoft Publisher (PUB, PUBX), Adobe InDesign (INDD), Quark (QXD) files, Powerpoint. If you have a file that has been prepared in one of these programs, please export a press-ready PDF file. Please contact our Prepress Department if you need help.

Prepare your artwork file at a resolution of 150 dpi at 100% of your final print size. If your artwork files are smaller than 24”x36”, please set the resolution to 300dpi at 100% of your final print size.

File Size

If you have created your artwork in Illustrator and it is over 200″, please scale your artwork down 50%. Although Illustrator has a maximum artboard size of 228″, Acrobat will only read up to 200″. If you export a PDF from Illustrator that is over 200″, a portion of your artwork will be cut off in Acrobat.
If your artwork is over 30,000 pixels along either axis, please to reduce your overall file size to 30,000 pixels or less. Please note, Large Format print products do not require the same amount of resolution as our regular print products. Because you view large format products from a distance, they do not require the same level of resolution as a hand held print product.

Color Mode

In order to have the best idea of how your artwork will print, please set your color mode to CMYK. If you send artwork files in RGB mode or with Pantone colors, we will convert your files to CMYK mode which may cause a shift in the color.
Our Large format products are printed in CMYK mode. CMYK is a color mode for print production. RGB is a screen color display mode. There are some colors that display on the screen in RGB mode, but that cannot be reproduced when printed in CMYK mode.
If your file is in RGB mode please convert it to CMYK mode. If there are Pantone colors in your artwork, please convert all Pantone colors to process colors before submitting your files.
When you convert Pantone colors to process colors or RGB mode to CMYK mode, it does not guarantee the same color.

Please do not submit fonts with your Large Format artwork file. If you are creating your files in Illustrator, please outline all fonts before you submit. If you are creating your files in Photoshop, please flatten your artwork before you submit.

File Upload

Please prepare your artwork files following our file resolution recommendations. Once you have placed your order, we will send you a link to upload your artwork files.

You can select from several different finishing options depending on the Large format product. We offer weld hemmed edges on our Outdoor banner products. We also offer #2 brass grommets, which are approximately 3/8” in size on our Outdoor banners and PVC Boards.
